Free ATS Resume Checker
Paste your resume and a job description to get an estimated ATS compatibility score, based on keyword overlap and common formatting red flags.
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is mainly a database and search tool that employers use to store, search and rank incoming resumes — not a mysterious gatekeeper silently rejecting resumes for arbitrary reasons. Many formatting "rules" that circulate online are myths; what actually matters more is whether your resume's content realistically matches the language of the job description, and whether a few genuine formatting issues (like multi-column layouts or text inside images) are getting in the way of accurate parsing. This checker looks at both.
How the ATS Checker works
Paste your resume text
Copy the text of your resume (or export it from the Resume Builder) and paste it into the checker.
Paste the job description
Add the job posting you're applying to, so the checker can compare your resume's language against it.
Get your estimated score
See a compatibility estimate along with the specific keywords and sections that are or aren't well represented.
Revise & recheck
Adjust your resume's wording to better reflect the role, then run the check again before you apply.
What it checks
Keyword overlap
How well your resume's language matches the vocabulary and requirements in the job description.
Section detection
Whether standard sections like experience, education and skills are clearly identifiable.
Contact info detection
Whether your name, email and phone number are present and easy to locate.
Formatting red flags
Common real issues — like text that depends on multi-column layout or images — that can affect parsing.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the score?
It's an estimate, not a guarantee of how any specific company's ATS will score your resume — different systems weigh things differently. Treat it as directional guidance, not a pass/fail test.
Will bold text or color break the ATS?
Generally no — this is one of the more common myths. Most modern ATS platforms handle standard bold, italic and color formatting fine. The bigger risks are multi-column layouts and text embedded in images. Our ATS-friendly formatting guide goes into more detail.
Do I need a job description to use this?
You'll get the most useful result with one, since keyword matching is relative to a specific role. Without one, the checker can still flag structural and formatting issues.
Is this free?
Yes, there's no limit on how many times you can check your resume.
Should I just stuff in keywords to raise my score?
No — the goal is describing your real experience using the vocabulary the job is already searching for, not padding your resume with irrelevant terms, which can backfire with a human reviewer.
